Nails & Body Care Tips
|
| 1 |
Soothe painful hangnails by moistening
first with water and then apply
moisturizer or cream. Gently clip the
hangnail off. A warm salt-water soak
will help remove redness. |
| 2 |
Avoid nail color yellowing with a top
coat with a UV (sun) protector.
|
| 3 |
Avoid acetone removers - they are drying
and cause white spots. |
| 4 |
Unsightly elbows? Brighten and smooth
with fruit acid based moisturizers and
exfoliators. |
| 5 |
Rough feet and heels. Again, AHA's are
great. Before bedtime, wash feet and
lather with a good AHA based cream or
lotion, the put on clean socks to let
feet soften over night. |
| 6 |
Dry itchy skin. After a warm bath, try
one of the light "dry" oil sprays to
direct moisturizer in hard to reach
areas like the small of the back. Avoid
chlorine, harsh bubble baths or
super-hot bath or shower water until the
condition improves. Use a lotion or
crème every day before you dress to keep
skin soft and comfortable all day.

Sensitive Skin Tips
|
| 1 |
Use a mild, unscented cleanser and warm
water. |
| 2 |
Wash with your fingertips, not a loofah
or washcloth. |
| 3 |
Use an alcohol-free toner or witch hazel
or skip it completely if you find it
irritates or burns. |
| 4 |
Avoid using strong products with Retin
A, AHAs or Glycolic Acid every day. Save
them for an intensive care session, once
or twice a week. |
| 5 |
If you do use Retin A, Vitamin C or
glycolic acid products 1-2x a week, you
can buffer them by mixing them with
moisturizer. Don't use more than one of
these strong treatments at a session.
Pre-test on your neck or wrist when in
doubt. |
| 6 |
Use PABA-free sunblock. |
| 7 |
Rosacea patients should avoid spicy
foods, caffeine, alcohol, sun exposure,
saunas and steam baths. |
| 8 |
If redness or irritation persist, see
your dermatologist. |

Hair Tips
|
| 1 |
Tone down brassiness with an ash blond
or light brown rinse - Chlorine makes
the problem worse. |
| 2 |
Frizz. There are dozens of products to
fight the problem. The thicker the hair,
the thicker the product you need to calm
it down. |
| 3 |
Super straight hair. Use a hot (1600
watt) dryer. To prevent frizzing, always
aim the nozzle downward, and hold hair
straight, as you're blowing it dry.
|
| 4 |
For flowing curls. Blow dry then follow
with 10 minutes in velcro curlers.
|
| 5 |
Heat rollers. Use the type with a steam
option for firmer curls, less damage,
than dry heat. |
| 6 |
Split ends. Anti-frizz products can
close up the splits temporarily but the
best way to control them is regular
haircuts. |
| 7 |
Oily Hair. Talcum powder massaged with
your fingertips through the hair can
absorb oil. Brush repeatedly to remove
every trace of the powder. |
| 8 |
Conditioner weighs your hair down?
Condition on the ends, not the scalp.
|
| 9 |
Cowlicks. Talk to your hairdresser about
how to part, blow dry and cut your hair
so it doesn't pop up unexpectedly.

Zit Fighters Tips
|
| 1 |
Rule #1: Don't pick! |
| 2 |
Wash twice a day. Lightly in the AM.
Extra-thoroughly in the PM. |
| 3 |
Disinfect by placing a septic stick on
the zit for 30 seconds. |
| 4 |
To reduce redness: Saturate a cotton
ball with Visine and hold it on the
blemish for 2 minutes or more. |
| 5 |
Reduce swelling or inflammation with a
dab a Preparation H. Leave it on for a
few minutes until absorbed. |
| 6 |
Have a professional facial regularly to
safely extract clogged oil and dirt
without infection or scarring.
|
| 7 |
Don't overtreat. Over-doing it -
washing, masking, or medicating - can
stimulate more oil. |
| 8 |
Rest on the 7th Day. Give skin a
makeup-free day. |
| 9 |
Eat a healthy diet and get regular
exercise to improve circulation.
|
| 10 |
Use oil-free sun blocks or tanning
lotions. |
| 11 |
Avoid creme-based foundation or blush if
your skin is oily. |
| 12 |
Keep your hands off your face. When you
do touch your face, make sure fingers
and nails are clean as possible.
|
| 13 |
See a dermatologist if acne persists.
|
| 14 |
Exfoliate at night, 1-2 times a week.
|
| 15 |
Use an acne/oily skin-fighting mask once
a week. |
| 16 |
Avoid washcloths. A good alternate is a
disposable cleansing 'facial' cloth. Use
once. |
| 17 |
and throw away! |
| 18 |
Dry face with a clean towel.
|
| 19 |
Wash with warm - not hot - water, and
lots of it. |
| 20 |
Cut oil buildup with an oil-blotting "mattifying"
toner. |
| 21 |
Use oil-free moisturizer sparingly. A
dime-sized amount is plenty. |
| 22 |
If soap overdries skin, switch to
cleanser - or alternate soap with
cleanser, morning and night. |
